BRIEF: Symphony has your escape ticket to France

The Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra will present "Vive la France," the latest concert in its Musical Postcards series, at 8 p.m. Saturday at Cabell Hall Auditorium and 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Monticello High School.

The program will feature Maurice Durufle's "Requiem" and two compositions by Claude Debussy -- "Danses Sacred and Profane" and "La Mer (The Sea)."

For the "Requiem," Michael Slon will conduct mezzo-soprano Cherry Duke, baritone Sumner Thompson and the 80-voice University Singers.

Harpist Anastasia Jellison will be featured in "Danses Sacred and Profane," and music director Kate Tamarkin will conduct both Debussy works. Richard Will presents a pre-concert lecture 45 minutes before each performance.

Tickets are $35, $30, $25 and $10. For tickets, call 924-3376.
